Kindergarten through 5th Grade

 


KINDERGARTEN - GRADE 5 – Classes are offered at three different times at the school building: Sundays from 11:00-12:15; Wednesdays from either 4:15-5:30 or 6:00-7:15. They begin in September and continue through April. The textbook used is We Believe published by Sadlier.

Kindergarten focuses on How the Bible tells us about God; I am a child of God; My family and the church; Jesus lived in a family; Jesus is my teacher and is always with us; We thank God at Mass; the Saints are special friends of God; The Holy Spirit helps us; We make choices and we show our love for God when we say I am sorry; the Liturgical year; and Jesus taught us to pray.

Prayers taught in Kindergarten are The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Morning and nighttime prayers, mealtime prayers, and Guardian Angel prayer.

Grade 1 focuses on God as Father and creator; Mary, the Mother of God; Jesus is the Son of God and shows God’s love; the Church celebrates all year (liturgical year); the Holy Spirit is our helper; we celebrate at mass; we live as a community and forgive others; we pray in many ways.

Prayers and practices taught in Grade 1 are The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, mealtime prayers, Act of Contrition; Apostle’s Creed; Rosary; The 7 Sacraments; The Ten Commandments; Celebrating Mass; Reconciliation

Grade 2 focuses on God as a forgiving Father; we believe in the Holy Trinity; we celebrate Baptism and Confirmation; The Ten Commandments; Jesus teaches us to pray; The Last Supper; The Great Commandment; the Liturgical year.

Prayers and practices taught in Grade 2 are The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, mealtime prayers, Act of Contrition; Apostle’s Creed; Mysteries of the Rosary; The 7 Sacraments; The Ten Commandments; Celebrating Mass; the Sacraments of Reconciliation and Eucharist.

Grade 3 focuses on the beauty of God’s creation; Mary trusted God; the death and resurrection of Jesus; the Communion of Saints; we celebrate love and healing; we celebrate the Eucharist; the Liturgical year; The 10 Commandments teach us to love and respect one another; we are a people of prayer; we profess our faith; Jesus teaches us to love.

Prayers and practices taught in Grade 3 are The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, mealtime prayers, Act of Contrition; Apostle’s Creed; Mysteries of the Rosary; The 7 Sacraments; The Ten Commandments; Celebrating Mass; the Sacrament of Reconciliation; Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy; The Beatitudes; Stations of the Cross.

Grade 4 focuses on listening to God’s Word; receiving the Holy Spirit; sharing Christ’s life and work; signs of God’s love; we are created in God’s image; living a moral life; love one another; we pray in the name of Jesus; the Liturgical year.

Prayers and practices taught in Grade 4 are The Sign of the Cross; Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, mealtime prayers, Act of Contrition; Apostle’s Creed; Mysteries of the Rosary; The 7 Sacraments; The Ten Commandments; Celebrating Mass; the Sacrament of Reconciliation; Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy; The Beatitudes; Stations of the Cross; precepts of the Church; a Vocation prayer.

Grade 5 focuses on the Word of God; The mystery of the Holy Trinity; Jesus, Son of God; the death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus; celebrating Liturgy; baptism and Confirmation; Pentecost; The Last Supper and the Eucharist; Jesus’ work of healing; making Christian decisions; love your neighbor; Jesus is our model of prayer.
